Little topo on artificial intelligence

AI : Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence or AI is the ability of a machine to make intelligent decisions based on the data collected. To achieve this, the machine has a set of algorithms that provide analysis and prediction capabilities.
AI has moved from the stage of science fiction, as seen in scientific books or comic books, to that of an essential element in many areas of the real world. What is its impact on our lives? What to expect in the coming days?

History of AI

The word artificial intelligence first appeared in 1950. Alan Turing, mathematician, designs a test to assess whether a machine can be labelled “conscious”. What follows is an impressive development of computer technologies and algorithmic techniques aimed at creating computer programs capable of surpassing man in emblematic fields. Most AI research is conducted in the United States. The main centres are Stanford University, MIT, Carnegie-Mellon University and Edimboug University.

Its scope of application

AI has evolved since 1956 and is now present in all vital sectors of activity. Transport, energy, health, finance, logistics, trade, and industry, everything calls on AI. Her involvement was gradual, as she had to brave several obstructions. The first machine to surpass a human was the Deep Blue. In 1997, she dominated world chess champion Garry Kasparov.

Cloud, smart meters, autonomous cars use powerful algorithm services to find efficient and reliable answers to users’ problems. AI is a combination of several disciplines: data collection involves electronics, data processing uses computers, data analysis uses mathematics, humanities and social sciences.

The Future of AI

According to film projections, the AI occupies a preponderant place in today’s world. The reality is different. What is certain is that we will see a strong presence of intelligent machines in our future life.

Scientists themselves are divided on the importance of equipment with AI. Some fear the devastating effects that intelligent machines without control can have. Cyberwar, killer robots, hacking, and exploding unemployment are some dangers of a heavy reliance on intelligent machines. Beyond this vision defended by renowned men like Stephen Hawkins, Bill Gates and Elon Musk, AI, like any technology, brings concrete results. This is an evolution for humanity and there are many positive prospects. In medicine, it is used to make reliable diagnoses in a short time, without requiring uncomfortable examinations for the patient.

What will the world become when AI surpasses men in all sectors of activity? Are we going to witness the destruction of humanity? While such questions are legitimate, we must remember that we are still a long way from them and we should not worry at the moment. Moreover, the best scientists are currently developing the laws of the future of AI and its limitations. Developed countries rely heavily on it to improve people’s daily lives.
